I ran my first telegram ads and here’s what I want you to know about it. #mediabuyingseries
Simple verdict: It may be too expensive for the vast majority.
As a media buyer, I have ran ads across all social networks, platforms in a bid of testing and seeing if which performs and for what campaigns, I have ran ads on Opera, Snapchat, Facebook, Taboola, Mgid, Twitter/X, Propellerads, Adsterra, various other pop ads, Good AdWords etc and now I am testing Telegram ads.
Some quick Cons running ads on Telegram:
First, you’d need 20 TON minimum as deposit, and that’s like $150 (N220,000).
TON is a volatile asset, so expect the value to increase overtime— as a matter of fact it has appreciated in value since my test.
With the minimum deposit asides, your base cpm for the ads can’t be lower than 0.1 TON which is well above $0.7 (N1,000) — it means for every 1000 people that sees your ads, you’ll be charged 0.1 ($0.7)
My CTR was low, I mean the ratio of people that saw my ads on those channel and actually clicked to join my channel was low, about 1%, 100:1 (views versus actual joins) this may be because of the time the campaign started not many people are awake, or the campaign itself didn’t appeal to the audience of those channels.
Here’s the benefit/pros of the ads:
You can easily target all top blogs telegram social account like Instablog, Lindaikeji, Gistlover even punters like Mayor of Ekiti and others and your ads will show in their channel.
You can promote an entirely new channel while adding links to your offer within that channel and after people have followed your channel, they can now click on your offer (you can build new channels here easily)
You can promote an existing channel so far it’s a public channel.
Things to note / Tips:
Your channel should have a catchy title.
Give your channel a great description because this will also show in the ads.
Fast approvals of campaigns.
You cannot target other countries except the GEO your telegram account resides in.
Overall, I would say the ads are expensive having that the country is not that much of a buying audience and you must readily sell high ticket offers to break even.
