How Hiring Graduates Almost Ruined My Business – Jim Iyke

How Illitrates Revived My Businesses Ruined by Graduates -Jim Iyke

A Nigerian popular actor and film Maker, James Ikechukwu Esomugha, popularly known as Jim Iyke, has narrated how his trusting and hiring of graduates and paper qualifications ruined his businesses until he brought some ‘Street-Sense’.

In an interview with SurgeOnline, Jim Iyke shared a personal experience of how ‘Street-Sense’ which he described as the ‘fastest’ made a difference in his business where people with Masters’s Degrees failed.

His words: “ For a long time, every business I involved myself failed woefully. I had one of the biggest boutiques in Abuja…and it was doing so well, immediately I took my eyes off the ball and brought someone (graduate), in seven months the boutique collapsed. Many other things I set up kept failing.

“I went back the to drawing board. I asked myself: how come I do it so well in the beginning and never finished it well? I was facing bankruptcy. What am I doing wrong? My passion is right, my drive is over the top. I study hard behind the scenes to understand this.

“Then I realize that my team was the problem. I believed so much in paper qualifications. They will come with their Masters’s Degrees and other qualifications. And I will subjugate that for Street Sense. People that understand the street hustles. I always brought people that had backgrounds and were relaxed and couldn’t share their passion.

“I needed hunger. So I went after hunger. Drop paper qualifications. And brought some sharp street boys. They are in charge of everything I am handling. They (Street boys) are not the most eloquent people, but they’re the fastest.”
