There is a reason the English have the expression no brainer.
We call it arun oju in Yoruba. My Igbo peeps here have to tell me what their own expression for it is – when the consequences of an action are so obvious that God would have to have created you the day he had only dotard DNAs left for you not to know such consequences.
In overwhelmingly Christian Igbo land, overwhelmingly Catholic Igbo land, when you hear anything called Assumpta, you know you are in the heart of Catholicism.
They name a road Assumpta in such a place. A full grown man with three legs carries himself and his non-brain and renames the road Mohammadu Buhari road!
Is this even the time to be naming anything at all after Buhari in the region, let alone something of such huge significance for Catholics? You will at least let Buhari show evidence that he has even the most rudimentary understanding of the concept of national reconciliation as a national leader before naming maybe a secondary school library after him.
As imperfectly as he was doing it, Osinbajo was on that path when Buhari was ill in London, painstakingly making reconciliation efforts in that part of the country. Buhari returned from London and like a bull in a China shop, sent soldiers to the region, gave arrogant national addresses to insult the region, and destroyed Osinbajo’s fragile but commendable gains in a matter of weeks.
That is the man you strike at the people’s Catholic sensibilities for. Why? you might as well go to Mecca and build a Pentecostal auditorium beside the Ka’aba! Little wonder the Catholic Bishop yonder said that the act was worse than slapping a Catholic priest in broad daylight.
These are the leaders who always warn citizens not to “heat up the polity.”
