Because we don’t want to be called the hater, here’s one of the good songs out now – Favourite Girl by Darkoo ft. Rema.
The first time I heard it I liked it!
Actually here’s the back story:
I was listening to it passively the other day while it played on TV.
Sadly, I was too distracted to take note of the artistes.
It finished and another song came on.
But you know that thing where that one song you heard earlier keeps replaying in your head?
How I used Google to track it down to Darkoo and Rema is a story for another day. *wipes sweat*
I thought Darkoo slid on the sampled beat from Brick and Lace’s “Love is Wicked”.
The iconic beat, known as ‘Diwali riddim’, was already a winner.
You can’t go wrong with it unless you no sabi work.
But it wasn’t just the catchy beat that made the romantic track “Favourite Girl” great, Darkoo’s singing did!
Her verses and the chorus ate.
It was my first time hearing this Nigerian-British girl.
She kept it simple with her laid back, deep tone, which I found soothing.
Rema’s energetic rap was a blessing on the song (I didn’t know he was that good).
The track struck the perfect balance between a dancehall song to groove to and also chill with.
Rating – 9 stars out of 10!
But again, because of the melody, I’ll add one more half-shaded star, that’s 9.5.
