Brainjother Did Well – Mazi Ogbonnaya

I purposely refused to make a comment yesterday how some Nigerians were running their mouth that Brain Jotter made millions from Mike Ejeagha’s content only to give him 2M.

How many of them even know Mike Ejeagha exist? How many of them even care about Igbo content? They rather promote anything except Igbo. They believe Igbo is local. People who feel ashamed to be associated with Igbo brand. People who allow their language and culture die. They embrace foreign traditions and despise theirs.

How many of our Igbo artists have tried to feature Mike Ejeagha? We have modern highlife singers. How many of them?

Do you know what that action by Brain Jotter did to Igbo language? It has revitalized the consciousness of Igbo folklore and transported it all over the world. It shows that if we really take our language serious, the whole world will study it.

Brain Jotter is a genius and his heart is as pure as anything. Dude has done great things for people, but of course, anyone who is not into dirty game and supports others isn’t always appreciated. If he’s one of those kriminals with money without enterprise, nobody would have said anything negative. They rather defend and say it’s grace.

I watched the video yesterday and saw 94 year old Mike Ejeagha crying when Brain Jotter was about to leave. Tears engulfed him.

I thought I was an akpọ, but I felt tears standing on the verge of my eyes. Then the song of Mike Ejeagha came to my mind:

“Ụwa mgbede ka mma.”

This statement is deep. No matter what you do, your breakthrough might come even in old age, when you least expected it. The fulfilment hits differently.

I saw how some inconsequential folks tried to trivialize Brain Jotter’s action by taking gwo gwo gwo ngwo to another level.

“Song my fathers played, how is Brain Jotter making it popular? You people should rest.”

Yes, Mike Ejeagha was a household name in the 60s, 70s and 80s, but his songs were mostly popular within the Igbo communities. People from other African nations, Europe, North America, South Africa and United States don’t know about him.

Igbo people who don’t even remember creative minds, most of their old artists and writers are forgotten and no one cares. Most Igbo of this generation don’t care about their own products.

Just this action by Brain Jotter changed everything. The worldwide attention it created. People who didn’t know about Mike Ejeagha now know him. My happiness is that he’s alive to witness that.

His tears got me. Man cried. Only the initiatied minds and creatives understand that tears. It was very emotional and fulfilling.

God kept Mike Ejeagha to witness a moment like this. Concert and show was created in his compound and I love everything that happened. Now, they are now playing gwo gwo gwo ngwo in some night clubs in Nigeria. Igbo folklore song being played in general night club. As a researcher in the field of Igbo Folklore I appreciate how deep this is.

If you really care about Mike Ejeagha’s intellectual property and royalties, go and hold his record label. They are the ones eating his money for years without remittance. The streaming of his songs go to them.

Brain Jotter is only but a vessel used to make him share tears of joy and have sense of accomplishment as a celebrity he is. A vehicle to make the world know about him. The 2M is from his pocket, his own magnanimity.

Learn something from this…a moment can change your life for good. Keep working hard. If you don’t see result now, you will see it later.

I paused!
