3 Major Duties Of A Small Business Owner

THE PROBLEM IS THAT YOU ARE DOING ONLY 1 OUT OF THE 3 MAJOR DUTIES OF A SMALL BUSINESS OWNER

There are 3 major duties of a small business owner.

Over 90% of us are doing only 1 out of these 3.

That is the real reason your small business seems to be dancing around in circles instead of growing.

Here are the 3 duties:

1. Operations
2. Marketing
3. Strategy

You are doing only operations every time and everyday.

You have thrown Marketing and Strategy away.

You wake up everyday, you open shop, you sweep, you clean, you display your goods, you sit down and wait for customers to come.

That’s all operations.

From one government to another government, you will keep complaining.

But this is how to run a proper small business that considers all 3 duties.

Let’s use a tailoring business for example:

1. Operations
You wake up everyday
You clean the shop
You arrange
You plan for the items that will be sown today
You handover to your team to cut and sew while you monitor.
Or, you cut and they start sewing so you can use your time to do the other 2 duties.

2. Marketing
While they are sewing, you dress up your mannequin with finished clothes and take pictures.

You post on social media.

You respond to customers in the DM or phone call.

You check on your ads. You stop poor performing ads and start up new ones. You fund your ad account.

You update your Whatsapp status.

You make existing customers happy by informing them that their clothes are ready.

Customers walk in, you attend to them. You handle fitting sessions. You take their permission and make videos. You post on social media.

You follow up with customers who collected their clothes to attend parties during the weekend. You ask for pictures, you post on social.

You write something intelligent about how clothes should fit on a woman’s hip area, you post on social.

You do more and more Marketing activities.

3. Strategy
Once in a week, you sit down with your manager and discuss the future of the business.

What more can we do?
What can we do better?
How can we start producing 20 items a day instead of 10?
What new styles are people wearing now?
What should we stop or start doing?
How can we make our customers happier?
How can we make our tailors happier so they don’t leave?
Where do we see this business by the end of this year?
What kind of numbers do we desire? What must we do to achieve it?

A simple brainstorming session where you take notes and you implement.

Oya, even you that you are reading this post, tell me why this tailoring business will not be making over 5million every month if all these 3 duties are done?

Sadly, the average tailor just wakes up everyday and does Operations from morning to night.

No growth
No improvement
No too much money
Blames it on the government

Yes, the government may not be doing great.

But if you do all 3 duties, you will do well, even with any government in power.

As a small business owner, you can control a huge percentage of your performance.

So do all 3.

Stop doing only Operations.
You are hurting that business.

Stand up from that sewing machine, let your staff sew.

You need to do other things.

If you sit down there and sew morning till night, poverty will attack you.

Let me stop here.

The gospel of the 3 duties is clear.

Spend a bulk of your time doing marketing and Strategy.
Hire, train and monitor people to do Operations.
This is the simple code to making millions.

I have cut big soap for you now o.

Oya bye.
