Why Reekado Banks New Album Didn’t Make Waves

It’s a pity that people don’t understand how the industry works. Do you know what it means to have industry contacts?
Reekado’s problem started when he left Mavins. If he was still under Don Jazzy , the poster won’t make this uninformed post. The tweet is lagging in information.

He’ll still be banging, even if he sings nonsense. At least you will hear the nonsense. Industry contacts makes people hear your songs first, before they(people) decide if they’ll continue playing it.
A good example is the case of Brymo. You rarely hear Brymo’s songs now, unless you’re following him. He has released some Albums after he left Choc City, yet most Nigerians are not aware of this.
If he was still with Choc City, you don’t have to be following Brymo before you hear his songs. You will hear it at least, before deciding if you like it.
Brymo quarrelled with Choc City and I believe he has learnt from his mistakes — he left without completing the agreed number of Album, according to them.
Try not to leave the label when you’re not yet connected, unless your contract is finished. Sometimes, try to sign a mini contract again, if possible, until you understand the business.
Just see it like an apprentice leaving his master at the right time, and not when he’s yet to understand so many things about the business.

Again; if you ended on a good note with the label, they can still be helping out in pushing your music whenever you release it as an independent Artiste.
Did you know that a whole Tuface released his third Album under Hypertek and it was looking like a child’s play?
There were rumors that he was still owing kennis a third Album, and that some industry contacts were removing it from promotions wherever he takes it to.
Some even said it was Kennis frustrating him. Tuface’s third Album had Hypertek printed on it, but after some frustration of the first few weeks, he went back to Kennis, and they settled well.
The third Album now came out as a Kennis Album, with Hypertek printed somewhere below as a Sub label.
That was how the Album started making waves again. After he left Kennis, they were still helping him push Hypertek somehow, because they settled well.
Why do you think MI had to become part owner of Choc City? He understands the business. Do you know that MI has another label called Loopy Music? It has some Artistes like Threadstone, and Ruby. Threadstone would have been a powerful rock group from Africa. I don’t know what’s happening to the label for now.
But guess what? MI had to later put the Loopy Music under Choc City.
Maybe they’re strategizing at Loopy Music.
One thing is clear: Make sure you have industry contacts before leaving.
Or make sure you have money to continue since you already have some fame.
There are only 3 Nigerian Artistes that were ready before leaving their labels:
    Tuface, Wizkid, and Tiwa Savage.
