To you, DeepSeek may be just another ChatGPT with sprinkles of “server is currently busy” .
For China, DeepSeek is a foundation for huge things to be done with AI across their industries.
DeepDeek will function as their very own national AI lab and LLM , on which other models will be built and trained to serve other industries from Health care , to auto and back to mineral mining.
It’s open source. It was created, it is being maintained and funded by the people of China. To China, DeepSeek is a product of persistence and blatant statement of “you can’t stop us” to the West.
The West that did everything to block the development of the platform, including ensuring that Chinese engineers never got access to Nvidia chips to build their computers.
They even went ahead to block access to Open AI in China so Chinese devs won’t take it apart to see how it works.
DeepSeek is fully open source. Since DeepSeek launched, corporations in China have come out en-masse to push the project forward.
Local chip and hardware makers in China are stepping up their games to supply them with hardware needed for their servers, since Uncle Sam won’t.
This week, BYD , China’s foremost EV automaker and probably the best selling EV automaker globally, announced that they will be working with DeepSeek to equip their cars with driver-assisted-AI .

It’s also important you know that by global standards, BYD makes better and cheaper EVs than Tesla . The EVs are so good that they are banned in the US.
EVs so good and yet cheap that Europe has slammed huge taxes on importation to discourage their citizens from buying.
It’s also important you know that BYD once used to make batteries for Tesla cars, before they themselves began to make electric cars. And yes, their batteries are still the best in the market or electric cars.
So here is the jerk,
Open AI was founded by four people , Elon Musk and Sam Altman inclusive. Open AI was founded, not as a profit organization, but as a pure AI lab.
An AI lab that will supply fine-tuned models and tools to various industries in America. Including companies owned by members of the Open AI board.
Elon invested seriously in the company, because he envisioned OpenAI to serve as an AI lab for companies like Tesla. Supplying tools and software for Tesla to build and integrate their full self-driving systems.
Not just Tesla but other automakers, companies, industries etc.
Unfortunately, OpenAI , spearheaded by Sam, went full profit, dissolved its non-profit board and began to hoard its systems and algorithms.
Tesla has struggled to bring its self-driving software up to par and accident-free. That is because with all the talent they hire yearly, it is difficult for one company to innovate across all fronts at once.
The exact opposite is about to happen in China. Once BYD and DeepSeek successfully develops this driver assist and on to full self-driving, other companies will just copy the code and put in their cars.
And that’s it. Already, many Chinese EV brands are kilometers ahead of Tesla and Mercedes EQ series.
Don’t take my word for it, go on TikTok and search for brands like BYD, Geely, ILS, Xpeng.
This is how China’s communism has proven itself to be a proper threat and competitor to the capitalism of the West.
So when I see posts like “there’s no big deal with DeepSeek, it’s just another…”, I just smile and scroll past.
Funny thing? By the time their models start playing a huge part in software used by your favorite Chinese phone brands (Redmi, Huawei, Tecno), you won’t even know.
