Paystack, a payment company founded by two friends who met at Babcock University, Shola and Ezra Olubi, spent between $200,000- $250,000 to organise the company’s 2024 end-of-the-year one-week retreat at Lakowe Lakes Golf and Country Estate last year.
This is not the first time the company is having this end of the year retreat, I think this is their 6th year or so.
The company has over 200 staff that work from Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, the UAE, and Ireland.
So the $250,000 budget went into flights for their international staff coming into Lagos, accommodation, paying the resource persons, and feeding for the one-week event.
In broader terms, $250,000 is over 420 million in naira value.
This amount is probably what some medium-sized businesses in Nigeria made as profit last year.
This is what an 8-year payment company spent to host their staff for a one-week retreat in Lagos.
I have been reflecting on this since I read the story on the Paystack website this morning.
The founders of Paystack are probably young, still in their 30s, so they are small boys in Nigerian local parlance, but they are doing big things, way bigger than their age.
As I was reflecting on the story this early morning, I was reminded that you are not too young to have that dream, to start that business this year, to take that ambitious step, or to live the life that you want to live for yourself this year.
So go on, bet on yourself this year.
Take that step and make that move.
Stop limiting your ambition and how far you can go because you think you are too young or not ready.
People who are younger than you and with lower IQs are doing much more, and they are living the life you admire and envy on Instagram because they took action.
I want to challenge myself, and I want to challenge you too.
Regardless of the circumstances or my age, I will do better, I will take action, and I will take that step.
I will live the life I want, and my age or not being ready will never be an excuse again.
Good morning, guys, and do have a blessed day.
