We can’t talk about the ‘Big 3’ artistes, Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, without mentioning some of their most memorable quotes.
I’ll pick one from each of them.
We’ll then decide which quote resonated most with the public
Wizkid – “Leave trash for LAWMA”
Note: Olamide said it first at the Headies and it banged. Sotey the Lagos State waste disposal agency LAWMA, started using it as a hashtag on their official Twitter handle 😂😂.
Wizkid later added more fire to it.
Most people thought Wizkid went too far with the trending phrase in 2016 when he used it on Linda Ikeji.
The gbasgbos began when Linda published a story about Wizkid’s eviction from his Lekki home.
He then threatened to b€at her.
His aunty. No respet fa.
After yabbing her in a series of posts, he finished off with the infamous line “leave trash for LAWMA”.
It ate sha.
Fans adopted it as their clap back.
Davido – “We rise by lifting others”
I think the origin of the phrase can be traced to 2018 Headies award.
Davido won the artiste of the year category and gave a beautiful speech, urging other artistes to help the needy.
It was very humbling.
Fans instantly used “we rise by lifting others” as captions.
Since then it’s become Davido’s signature slogan.
The downside, however, is that some people started using it to beg as a form of emotional bl@ckmail.
Burna Boy – “You go explain taya, no evidence”
I still remember the live video of 2023.
And the weed smoke covering Burna’s face as he said if your hard work no show working, nobody will believe you tried.
Just paraphrasing the line.
And then him and his goons let out this evil laugh like those hyenas in The Lion King.
As soon as the live ended, “you go explain taya” was on everyone’s lips.
It ignited a debate online and became a meme used to troll people. I mean, one can’t deny the comical effect.
It also appeared as an exam question at the University of Uyo, History and International Relations dept. Lol.
If you ask me which of the 3 quotes hit the hardest, Burna’s apparently.
