Chidinma Ekile Is Now A Gospel Artist

So information reaching me has it that Chidinma Ekile has found Jesus.
She dresses the part of a sister too.
You know before now she mass deleted her old IG posts, went away for over 2 months, and recently started things afresh on her IG, returning in choir berets and kingdom-dance skirts.

So going forward, it’s bye bye to the things of the world, secular music, and I guess, the muscular arms of Flavour.

And just to pass her point across, her Instagram bio reads: “End time soldier” and “my message is Jesus”

Now the only reason I’m reacting to Chidimma’s sudden transformation is because she’s my girl; I’ve always written about her if you’ve been following, sometimes I talk about her in not-so-nice ways that some of you have mistaken for dragging.
But I do so only because I care.

The image of that extremely timid, pint-sized girl who gradually came out of her shell and owned the Project Fame West Africa stage years back when everyone thought less of her is still impressed on my mind.
Since then I’ve followed her journey every step of the way, with me seeing myself as a brother to her. 😂

So when I see her making stupid mistakes, like becoming a religious fanatic as a next career move, I feel I owe it a duty to check her.
If she were in front of me, it’d take everything in me not to slap some sense into her skull.
Because I didn’t come 100 miles with Chidinma to see her take 5000 miles backward. Not on my watch will this happen!

I think she’s just a confused artist who doesn’t know what to do with herself and which direction to go with her sound. Over the years it’s been quite difficult for her to fully switch from a singer to the typical Nigerian gbedu artist, which works better here.
Obviously, she has reached a plateau in her secular music career, it didn’t seem like it could get any better than it’s been in the last 7 years.

Hence, I’m guessing she was like, this gospel thing though… It just might take off.
After all I’ve managed to be scandal-free all these years, my brand of secular music has walked the fine line of ‘safe’.
I have a voice that doesn’t go with club song beats.
People still regard me as pristine.
So when all else fails, let’s tie a scarf and tap into this new market, gospel.

And then she launches her gospel career with a new music video titled “Jehovah Over Do”.
Another boring gospel song she has made that’s only endurable because she’s pretty.

Notwithstanding, Nigerians, as expected, are shouting, “Welcome back to the fold” “Thank you Jesus for arresting your daughter” “More of this sister Chidimma”.
Not like any of them catching the spirit in the comments section of her posts will buy such trash in this era of solid worship songs. In this era of Sinach, Nathaniel Bassey, Mercy Chinwo, Tim Godfrey, Ada…

Although somebody was telling me the label she’s on, Eezee Conceptz, has Mercy Chinwo and other big gospel stars on it, so Chidimma is in a good place and has a future there.

But I don’t see it that way.
They only need her because she has made a name for herself.
But career wise, she won’t be another Mercy Chinwo who’s already established in the gospel world.

As soon as the novelty of becoming a secular-turned-gospel artist wears off, Chidinma will likely descend to the level of a once popular Nigerian act-turned-crusade singer, sharing stages with Gozie Okeke and all the Nkwa praise bands at Aba Revival programs.

She will lose her glow, wearing all those sister Chichi Ankara gowns and fascinator hats.
And that’s how you and I will gradually forget a Chidinma Ekile.
    What a predictable fall.
