Aside arresting Emefiele on the alleged crimes, Tinubu has further goofed by appointing a mechanical engineer as the acting CBN governor. This is another error that could further dampen the value of naira and finally bury our economy.
The central bank of Nigeria is not just the apex bank but also the financial engine room saddled with the duties of regulating cash issues and other monetary policies. However, the governor of this bank is as well a representative appointed by the president, hence, he discharges according to his master’s instructions.
There are about 10 count allegations raised against the suspended CBN governor spanning from the time he was appointed till the moment Tinubu took over as the president. However, there are very many sides to the story. So many people have termed the arrest of Emefiele as a revenge of his attitude towards Tinubu during the last electoral process.
Mr Godwin Emefiele was accused of aiding and abetting with terrorist, money laundering and many more. It is also worthy to believe that these allegations might be false since no evidence was provided to such claims. One could say he’s been fought by some elements who’re displeased with him in the cabinet.
It’s possible to recount the journey of how Emefiele got himself into this present ‘mess! During the 2023 presidential election. Emefiele has picked a nomination form to run for the office of the president. Somehow, this angered some elements in the government and it was after then they raised numbers of allegations against him. Emefiele after being unsuccessful in the primary elections, he further moved to redesign naira which led to scarcity of cash so as to discourage vote buying leaving the APC stranded.
Emefiele’s suspension and Arrest is a direct finger-pointing to Buhari’s administration. Somehow, arresting Emefiele should possibly lead to Buhari who appointed him and failed to check him all along.
Tinubu’s Administration is somehow distracted by retaliating past encounters. It was also recorded in the beginning of Buhari’s tenure that he clamped down on persons who’ve engaged with him in history. After then, the president has achieved if anything but a few.
