On Davido cancelling London performance
So Davido was billed to do a joint Tottenham Hotspur Stadium concert with American stars 50 Cent and Mary J Blige.
Take note of the word ‘joint’.
He was not categorised with other guest performers.
He was supposed to co-headline the show.
So why’s the ‘respect Africa’ talk going around? It’s not like he was placed on the back burner.
His statement read: “There have been major misalignments regarding the events execution, PARTICULARLY concerning key elements regarded to uphold the integrity and quality of my performance”.

I almost thought it was Michael Jackson refusing to do a performance because his special effects and pyrotechnics demands weren’t met.
Let us tell ourselves the bitter truth, when it comes to performances we don’t need much.
Just a good mic and a few good zanku dancers.
So what’s with the use of buzz words ‘integrity/quality of my performance’?
The press release sounds bogus.
This isn’t a case of Beyonce demanding a huge wardrobe budget for herself and a battalion of dancers, because she’ll definitely be doing highly choreographed routines with great execution.
This isn’t a case of Usher needing good lighting, plenty ashawo coloured lights, because he’d be doing a lot of bumping and grinding.
This is Davido.
What lacking ‘key elements’ could possibly impede his performance?
Sound production?
Should we go there?
Granted, he has the energy. He has the songs too.
But I feel he struggled to deliver a performance that met expectations, leading to his removal from the line-up.
Cos if I know Dave too well, he will show up for anything in spite of!
Let alone a show of this magnitude. A career-defining one.

Mind you, it was going to be a one-off performance where he, 50 Cent and Mary would come together as a unit.
I suspect there was a noticeable disparity between him and the other two. And y’all know 50 don’t place nice.
Somebody wasn’t blending.
Somebody’s vocals were hitting the mic wrongly.
Somebody suggested a DJ play track 2, 3 and 5, and the organizers said we ain’t doing this with you, Sir.
