So Wizkid’s former label boss, Banky W, recently revealed that your fave owed his E.M.E record label 3 albums.
Wizkid was supposed to release 5 as part of the deal, but walked away from the record company after just 2 albums. Meaning, there was a breach of contract.
Banky said he let him go because he didn’t want to force anybody to stay where they don’t want to stay.
Hmm… What an easy exit, I thought
I think Mr Wellington was quite mature and gracious to his former signee despite how he unceremoniously left E.M.E in 2013.
He overlooked his attitude, which at the time was unpalatable.
Sometimes we forget that the sweet, laid back Starboy of today used to be a hotheaded teenager on social media.
Those times, he would go on a shading spree on Twitter, firing shots at celebrities like Samklef, Tonto Dikeh, Skales, including his former label boss Banky, who he practically gave the middle finger to, and for a long time had no glowing remarks for him.
Sadly, this was the same lad who sought this man for an opportunity that many would’ve given an arm and a leg for.
Like, Banky had so many reasons to file a lawsuit against him long ago for not fulfilling his contract, an action most label bosses won’t hesitate to take.
But I think maturity prevailed.
You know, when you look at the age difference
Back to Wiz and his 2 albums dropping azz.
Most Wizkid FC urchins might be tempted to yab Banky for sharing a painful business experience and call it clout, while hailing their idol for unprofessionally abandoning E.M.E for greater success.
And just to buttress their points, they might go on to say former E.M.E signees like Niyola, Skales are no longer at the top of their game, hence Wizkid was a clear winner.
But then I don’t think that would be a fair way to interpret the situation, especially for a man who took a chance on a very young Surulere kid, made him his protégé, and gave him wings to fly.
I say this, even as a nonfan of Banky W
Remember I told y’all Mr moon-head Wellington blocked me on IG.
But then, truth be told, Wiz played dirty.
