Our award shows and events need to try other type of hosts.
It must not always be Nancy Isime, Ebuka and Ik.
I mean, those guys are nice choices. But then, I’ve seen their delivery enough and know what to expect from them.
Industry events need to evolve beyond hiring the same cookie-cutter type of hosts.
Those considered corporate, sweet, poised.
That’s what they usually go for.
For example, Nancy Isime.
I believe those perceived as controversial can equally be entertaining and much more engaging.
And I mean the likes of Speed Darlington, Bobrisky, Tacha, Nons Miraj, Mercy Eke (I know I’m forgetting some persons).
Before you say “what!”
It’s showbiz, celebrities cosplaying as hosts is allowed. Although it’s more common on the international entertainment scene.
One thing about hosting industry events is that one doesn’t necessarily have to be a media trained expert to do the job.
Meg Thee Stallion is hosting the VMAs this year.
I remember Cardi B doing same at the AMAs in 2021.
One’s striking personality and vibe can hold an audience. Ultimately, bringing in the views that the sponsor brands and TV networks need.
You may have your opinions about Bob, Tacha and others, but it’s obvious they draw attention easily.
People want to hear them say something and see every nuance of their expressions, as much as they’d love to deny it.
It’s no-brainer that the views they’ll rake in just for showcasing a bit of their cr@zy selves on stage will be maaaad.
It doesn’t always have to be the corporate and ‘jejely’ people all the time.
I find it too conventional, safe, and boring.
I hope all the once popular award shows struggling with low ratings take a look at the pool of vibrant and sassy personalities on the internet and try a different approach to hosting.
It might just be a reason to watch.
