Obi Cubana’s 50th birthday was supposed to be the party of the year. HBD to him by the way.
However, in my ‘annoying’ opinion, despite the glitz and glamour, the event had nothing on Tony Elumelu’s All-White party.
The one which took place two years ago.
Elumelu’s event obviously inspired the All-White party, which Obi Cubana attempted to replicate for his birthday bash on day 1.
But it appears there’s not much hype surrounding the party’s opening day.
Despite the sponsor brand Samsung giving out 50 S25 smartphones to guests, the event still didn’t shake the foundations of social media.
I don’t see people talking about the red carpet appearances, fashion, and performances.
What’s been making the rounds on social media are the wads of dollar notes that were sprayed by guests.
As well as the rams, tricycles, and cartons of tomatoes donations.
First of all, Elumelu will not host a party and the highlights will be giveaways and the sheer volume of gifts he received.
Elumelu will not host a party and the talking point will be the number of Onitsha businessmen that stormed the venue and ‘stoned’ him with bundles of dollars.
Elumelu will not host a party and pedestrian slangs like ‘money na water’ will be the theme of the day, because a certain hype man decided to be front and centre at the event.
You see the difference between razz and class.
Still on Elumelu’s All-White party two years ago.
I’m focusing on that one because it set the precedent for other celebrity parties that followed.
A-list performers stole the show – Tiwa Savage, Davido, Burna Boy, and Asake, Ayra Starr, Kizz Daniel and Spyro.
That was for the main event o.
The one for UBA staff and customers a few days before the d-day had Tiwa, Teni, Odumodu Blavk, Mayorkun, Fireboy DML, Victony, and Crayon.
You see how you do a parte after parte? You wow the guests and social media viewers with top-notch entertainers.
Among those in the guest list were BUA Group founder, Abdul Samad Rabiu, UTM Offshore Limited boss, Julius Rone, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori; other Governors.
Compare that to Obi’s celebrity guest lineup.
Cubana Chief Priest, Jubril of Lagos, Pretty Mike, AY Makun, E-Money, Daddy Freeze, Jowizaza, Zubby Michael, Lilian Esoro, Angela Okorie, Maria Chike Benjamin and hubby, Real Warri Pikin…
You see how things went from A-list to C-list.
I think Peter Obi saved the day though. Maybe Flavour too. And E-Money’s dollar notes.
Now, I expect some disgruntled elements to say:
Don’t compare, just celebrate grace.
Rich man dey make money, poor man dey analyse.
Mind your business.
Rest.
Yada yada yada.
Taa!
They’re both billionaires and kings of soft life. Hence, their doings must be compared.
