    Remembering Prof. Chinua Achebe

    Chinua Achebe was a Novelist, Poet, and Critic.
    He hailed from Ogidi in Anambra State.
    He is a dominant figure in modern African literature.

    He is referred to as the “father of African literature”.
    He is the highest selling African author of all time.

    His first novel and magnum opus, Things Fall Apart (1958), occupies a pivotal place in African literature and remains the most widely studied, translated and read African novel.
    Things Fall Apart was translated to over 60 languages and sold over 20 million copies.

    Along with Things Fall Apart, his No Longer at Ease (1960) and Arrow of God (1964) complete the “African Trilogy”; later novels include A Man of the People (1966) and Anthills of the Savannah (1987).

    His last published book was “There was a Country”, a history of Biafra, and it was released in October 2012, few months before he died.

    He died on This day in 2013 in Boston Massachusetts.
