Justus Esiri was amongst the first people who started the film industry in the 1960s. Nigerian Television Authority series: “The Village Headmaster” made him popular.
He featured in Chinį»„a Achebe’s adaptation of “Things Fall Apart” into the film series in the 80s.
He is the father of the popular Nigerian singer, Dr SID.
Who is Justus Esiri?
HĆ© was born in Oria-Abraka, Delta on November 20,1942.
He went to Effurun and attended Urhobo College, Bendel State.
He left Nigeria for Germany for his higher education.
He attended Maximillan University, Munich, German(1964), Prof. Weners Institute of Engineering, West Berlin (1967) and the Ahrens School of Performing Arts (1968).
While in Europe he began his acting career. He was working as a German translator for voice of Nigeria in Germany when he received an invitation home from the Nigerian Government to stair in “The Village Headmaster” which he accepted.
He returned to Nigeria to join in developing movie industry. He was conferred one of the National Awardsā Order of the Niger (OON).
Justus Esiri died of diabetes on 19th February 2013 at the age of 70.
